At the May 24th BritishAmerican Business breakfast in New York City on Greening Business – Managing your Carbon Footprint Profitably, Edmond Cunningham, PA Consulting Group's lead on the global initiative of Greening Business noted, "we must lead the charge - if we don't lead, we'll end up being consumed," in front of a large audience at The Harvard Club.
Efficient management of an organization's carbon footprint not only reduces energy costs leading to increased profitability, but also promotes an environmentally-aware image to stakeholders, generates new business opportunities and facilitates compliance with legislative requirements.
Mr. Cunningham said that embedding green thinking into the DNA of an organization is critical, and this includes employee engagement, "we have to work to change the behaviour of our people and the way they think about the consumer, the technology and the environment in order to move forward," he said, "but in order to be able to incentive your employees to change their behaviour, you have to do so in a way that makes sense for your organization and in a way that makes it profitable."
The breakfast, run by British American Business, had a panel of three speakers that included Hervé Houdré, Regional Director and General Manager, InterContinental The Barclay; Mahadev Ramen, Chairman Americas, Arup; and Edmond Cunningham of PA Consulting Group.
