PA took up the challenge of reducing the manufactured cost of the Compact Monitor without compromising the high quality of the product.
Our approach was to use Critikon’s unique technologies in a totally revised and innovative design. This took advantage of the simplifications and cost savings available from state-of-the-art silicon devices and new manufacturing techniques.
The design is modular so that subsystems can be outsourced while still maintaining stringent quality control. Final assembly is simple and rapid because of the carefully designed internal arrangement and mounting methods. At PA we pulled together our own multidisciplinary team, industrial designers working alongside mechanical, electronic and software engineers.
State-of-the-art CAD/CAM and development methodologies enabled Critikon and PA to evaluate design options in real time and find the optimum blend of technical and aesthetic qualities. The design, which evolved rapidly, thus achieved high levels of performance and reliability, while delivering low manufacturing costs and retaining the essential form of the original Compact Monitor in an innovative style. The new product meets the market need precisely.
PA worked closely with Critikon’s own production managers, so the detail of the design now fits well with the latest manufacturing technologies preferred by Critikon and its subcontractors.
With the arrival of the new DINAMAP® PRO Series 100–400 Monitors, Critikon has been able to reduce overall product costs at or better than plan, while delivering performance enhancements that improve the overall reliability of the Monitor.
By combining Critikon’s unique patient-monitoring knowledge with PA’s
innovative design skills and product development facilities, Critikon has been able to introduce a highly successful next-generation product that offers high value to its customers and enhances its enviable reputation in the market.
