At the heart of the system is a miniaturised, rapid exchange catheter, which is designed to detect and map small temperature variations inside the coronary arteries. These temperature variations are believed to be caused by vulnerable plaque – one of the major causes of sudden heart attack.
PA managed the co-ordination of a range of manufacturers, designers and suppliers across Europe and the US – and led the development of the core system component, a catheter that is doubly innovative. Firstly it is smaller than previous versions of the device. Secondly it incorporates specially designed technology making the catheter easier and quicker to use.
